The annual international congress of the European Media Management Association (emma) will be organised next year by NHL Stenden and held from 5 to 8 June on our Leeuwarden campus. This announcement was made last week during the 20th emma congress In Pamplona (Spain) by Professor of Applied Sciences in Transformational Media and board member of emma, Dr. Bianca Harms. She will coordinate the four-day event in collaboration with representatives of the Academy of Communication & Creative Business and the Erasmus Research Centre for Media, Communication and Culture (ERMeCC) at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The congress attracts some 120 scientists each year from the field of communication and media in Europe and beyond. Previous congresses were held in Lisbon, Tallin, Hamburg, München and Ghent, but never previously in the Netherlands.

Theme #emmaleeuwarden

The theme of #emmaleeuwarden will focus on the many areas media innovation and social transformations have in common. This will help facilitate academic discussion on the opportunities and threats posed by media innovation and transformation. Media plays a crucial role in the cultural, social, economic and political environment and has a huge impact on the transformation of society. So as to stress the valuable insights both academic and practice-oriented research have to offer in the field of media management and communication, the congress is being organised in collaboration with Erasmus University.
