Renate was one of seven lecturers who competed against 'each other' in the end game. They had been shortlisted by their academies earlier this year, based on elections in which students could vote for their favourite lecturer. The finals consisted of two parts. After everyone had made a pitch, the jury chose three finalists.
Education in 2030
Together with Marjolein Tijpens (lecturer in Technical Business Administration) and Nasek Amin (lecturer in Finance, Tax & Advice), Renate qualified for the final round. Under the watchful eye of family, friends, fellow lecturers, students and, of course, the jury, the three lecturers had to answer this question in the final round: what will education in 2030 look like and what will be your part in it?
The jury - consisting of Marjan Scholman (director of OO&I) and the three students Jelger van der Meulen (HMR student member), Franke Smink (Public Administration - Government Management student) and Sophia van Lent (Communication student and Marketing & Communication intern) - were most impressed by Renate's story.
Future-oriented, international and committed
From the jury verdict: "Renate's genuine passion was the first thing that stood out during her pitch. Passion for her profession, but also commitment towards her students. Renate's story appealed to our imagination and she gave a nice insight into her views as a lecturer: forward-looking, internationally oriented and engaged. Renate is deservedly Lecturer of the Year."
From presenter Jaap Sanders, Renate then received the trophy, a big bouquet of flowers and a voucher to spend at the Notiz Hotel and Restaurant Wannee. Renate is the successor to Lanja Göttgens, who was named last year's NHL Stenden Lecturer of the Year.
