Dexy Keys

How to support early childhood development due to the lack of individualised and engaging educational tools?

The project "Dexy Keys" in the Business Administration course is grounded in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of “Quality Education”, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable education for all. We chose to focus on young children (ages 2-10), who face developmental challenges such as illiteracy, underdeveloped fine motor skills, and attention deficit disorders like ADHD.

The video features a keyboard placed in a child's room, highlighting its practical use in a real-life setting. The camera zooms in on different parts of the keyboard to demonstrate how it helps develop dexterity skills. It showcases spinning keys, puzzle pieces, and various textures on the keyboard, as well as a star-shaped puzzle piece designed to keep children engaged and entertained.

What is the occassion for this project?

The occasion for this project is a Design Thinking assignment within the International Business Administration program. We had to develop an innovative solution aligned with one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

What problem does it solve?

The problem it solves is the lack of individualised and engaging educational tools that support early childhood development. Many children struggle with traditional learning environments due to limited access to quality resources, pressure to perform, and a lack of stimulating materials that allow for the development of different needs and learning styles.

This project is important because it offers a creative, tactile solution—an educational toy keyboard made from different textures and materials, designed to help children:

  • Develop fine motor skills

  • Learn the alphabet through interactive features

  • Stay engaged and focused through sensory stimulation

Furthermore, Dexy Keys addresses not only educational needs but also contributes to environmental sustainability by using 100% recycled materials, and promotes social inclusion and parent-child interaction, making it a meaningful innovation both socially and environmentally.

Who is the project team?

The team consisted of three students:

  • Layla Zein Eldeen

  • Nela Cupic

  • Elena Rodnova

How does the project team approach this?

We collaborated effectively by dividing tasks according to each member’s strengths, ensuring that everyone contributed meaningfully. We demonstrated strong time management by consistently meeting deadlines and keeping the project on track. Throughout the process, we made sure to use each other's skills to enhance the quality of our work and regularly incorporated constructive feedback from the teacher to improve and refine our ideas.

What are the main (or preliminary) results?

The main result of the project was a successful Dragon's Den-style presentation, where we pitched our product and received investment offers from all four dragons. This outcome validated the strength of their concept, business plan, and product design, highlighting both the market potential and the impact of their educational toy.
