Within the Maritime Professorship Platform, research groups from universities of applied sciences collaborate with researchers and research groups from various backgrounds on maritime issues in the broadest sense of the word. This may involve technical innovations, the energy transition, data and ICT usage as tools to gain better insights or designs, Maritime Industry 4.0, food supply, and organizational and social innovations.
What is the reason for the project?
The goal of the Maritime Professorship Platform is to connect the widely distributed maritime research at universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands, thereby making it easier to align with the major national maritime themes. One of the means to achieve this is by collaborating with the Maritime Knowledge Centre (MKC), where maritime research is initiated.
The motivation for this partly stems from the important role that shipping, in all its aspects, has played in the development of Dutch society. At the same time, the maritime sector has a crucial role to play in the major transitions facing our country.
What problem does the project solve?
The Maritime Professorship Platform aims to be a driving force behind a growing network of researchers, (SME) companies, and public institutions. The platform itself, as part of this network, provides the space where new societal initiatives and new research lines, programs, and projects can develop.
Who is the project team?
From NHL Stenden, professors Herbert Koelman and Welmoed van der Velde participate in this collaboration.
They are partnering with professors from seven other universities of applied sciences:
HZ University of Applied Sciences
Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences
Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences
Hanze University of Applied Sciences
Netherlands Defence Academy – Royal Netherlands Naval College
The Hague University of Applied Sciences
Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences
In the research projects that emerge from this platform, teachers and students from the involved programs will, of course, also participate.
