Albert Postma earned a degree in Human Geography from Groningen University and went on to obtain a PhD there in 2013. He spent the first decade of his career involved mainly in research and monitoring, initially for the City of Leeuwarden as a research coordinator specialising in post-war neighbourhoods and then at the Centre for Leisure and Tourism and the Institute for Service Management of the Christelijke Hogeschool Noord-Nederland (currently NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences). He regards the development and structure of Toerdata Noord, a project in which the three northern Dutch provinces work together to collect statistical data on tourism, as a milestone.
For the past fifteen years, Postma has been lecturing in the Bachelor’s programme in Leisure Management and NHL Stenden’s Master’s programme in International Tourism and Leisure Studies, where he also serves as a course director. He focuses mainly on city and regional marketing, research and statistics and, in recent years, sustainable tourism in relation to quality of life. Postma has been affiliated with the Department of Scenario Planning since 2003 and was appointed as a Professor of Applied Sciences in 2010. He was inaugurated in 2012.
