Anke Vellenga has been a lecturer-researcher at the Bachelor programme Creative Business at NHL Stenden since 2020. After a career of 15 years in the media industry, Anke saw this as the perfect opportunity to share her knowledge and experience with students and to bridge the gap between practice and education. This is also an excellent opportunity to conduct more research into developments and innovation in the media sector herself. The educational concept of NHL Stenden, Design Based Education, and design based research appeal to her greatly. Reason for Anke to move back to her homeland for this job.

In her role as a lecturer, she mainly supervises students in the areas of research, information skills and media content. For the OSM lectorate, Anke works on inspiring projects on digital citizenship, for example she developed a minor and conducts research into interventions in the field of digital citizenship.

Her passion for co-creation and innovation in journalism is reflected in her project at the Leeuwarder Courant, where she worked with students and employees of the newspaper on the issue of how young people can be involved in regional news.

Anke studied Information Services and Management in Groningen and completed her master's degree in Media & Journalism at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She then gained experience as an (internet) researcher and information specialist at news organizations such as RTL Nieuws, Algemeen Dagblad and NOS. At NOS she discovered her interest in data and investigative journalism and decided to continue her career as a journalist temporarily in Suriname and later Curaçao. After returning to Rotterdam, she worked for a media NGO and was coordinator of the media monitoring and analysis team at ANP.

In the coming period, Anke will be working on research into smartphone etiquette and the Digital Citizenship Roadmap. In addition, she wants to further develop the minor so that we can work with even more students on (media) solutions in the field of news and media literacy.
