Wiebren is employed as a Senior Lecturer and Researcher Strategic Communication at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. In February 2023 he joined the Professorship Transformational Media, where he will contribute to the development of a sustainability monitor.

In his research, Wiebren has revealed how organizations can become more diverse and inclusive and has examined how this affects the wellbeing and performance of individuals and teams.

He obtained a PhD in Social and Organizational Psychology in 2015 at the University of Groningen. As part of his dissertation, he developed and validated the Perceived Group Inclusion Scale (PGIS), which measures the degree to which people perceive to be socially included in groups. Soon after his PhD defence, he accepted a position as Assistant Professor at Utrecht University to work with some of the top scholars in his field. Together with his colleagues, he developed and launched the Netherlands Inclusivity Monitor (NIM), an evidence-based tool to help organizations become more diverse and inclusive.
