Seal of approval Sustainable Higher Education

TM and MILTEM receive ‘Sustainable Higher Education’ label

January 2024

The associate degree and bachelor Tourism Management and the master International Leisure, Tourism & Events Management rates high in the measurement on the integration of sustainable development . All three programs received four out of five stars, earning them the Sustainable Higher Education Seal of Approval from the consultancy firm Hobéon.

Educational institutions and also degree programs in the Netherlands can have their contribution to a sustainable society tested to demonstrate the integration of sustainability into their programs. The Academy of Leisure & Tourism Management has been doing this every three years since 2008. This year, for the first time, the measurement focused on UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The two Tourism Management programmes and the master International Leisure, Tourism & Events Management were rated four out of five stars by Hobéon for the integration of the SDGs. For this, both programs receive a certificate and an official seal of approval.

Sustainability coordinator Dr. Akke Folmer explains why this label is so important for the courses: “We put sustainable and regenerative development of leisure, tourism and events at the heart of our academy. We believe that it is important to empower our students to become resourceful, critical and responsible managers who understand the importance of making a positive impact on people’s life and livelihood through leisure, tourism and events.”

In the spring, the measurement will also be administered to the associate and bachelor degree of Leisure & Events Management.
