“Grand Tour gave me the chance to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself”

Student Hospitality Management

Ester has always had a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures. That love for adventure continued when she embarked on Grand Tour to Thailand for her minor electives: integrated digital marketing and digital entrepreneurship. Combining the skills she learnt and her love for hospitality has convinced Ester that she'd be best suited in a job where she could welcome people from around the world and make sure they have a memorable stay.

“I’ve always been very curious and open-minded, so I really wanted to be in an international environment. I knew studying Hospitality Management would give me the chance to do all the things I am passionate about – being surrounded by people from diverse backgrounds, learning different languages, and sharing opinions. But the absolute highlights of the programme have been going on Grand Tour and the chance to do an internship in Dubai. These have been invaluable experiences that have helped me grow personally and professionally.”

Next stop: Bangkok

“Grand Tour offered me the chance to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself in new ways. Coming from Bulgaria, I wanted to immerse myself in a culture that was very different to my own. And that’s why I chose to do minors in integrated digital marketing and digital entrepreneurship in Bangkok. I was sure I was going to have unforgettable experiences, see how other people live, and learn from it all – and that’s exactly what happened!”

“Honestly, I am so happy with my choice, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Of course there were challenges along the way, like working with people who didn’t share the same work values as me, and communication issues with industry partners. Also, the practical training wasn’t easy, and I did miss my family and friends, but I’m so glad I did it.”

Getting to know the market

“There are so many benefits to Grand Tour like having the possibility to study and travel at the same time. Plus, being in Thailand means the weather is always nice and it’s affordable – the perfect combo for a student! The whole experience was special for me since marketing is another passion of mine. I’ve applied what I’ve learnt to my role as social media president of the HMS marketing team, and I’m grateful to have had the chance to work as a marketing manager at Notiz Hotel. In the future, I’d like to start my own online business using the knowledge and skills from my minors. And maybe at a later stage, I’d love to open my own guest house or family hotel where I can make people feel at home.”
