Student Hospitality Management (fast track)

Natascha started her degree in Hospitality Management in February after realising that Leisure & Events Management wasn’t the right fit for her. Starting in February worked out perfectly for Natascha because it meant she didn’t have to wait for another semester to make the switch. Plus, being in a smaller group with other students who started at the same time made it easy for Natascha to make new friends and get settled in quickly.

“I started off studying Leisure & Events Management at NHL Stenden in September, but soon realised it wasn’t really my cup of tea. I’ve always been super intrigued by everything that goes on in a hotel. And as a kid, I always wanted to know what was going on behind the scenes. The idea of working with people from all corners of the world and the chance to work in different countries also really appealed to me. So, as I was already in Leeuwarden, I took every opportunity to chat with Hospitality Management students and ask them all my burning questions. I heard so many positive experiences that I decided to start the new programme as soon as I could.”

Starting in February is a sweet deal

“When February came around, we had a fantastic introduction week. And since there weren’t as many students as there are in September, we all got to know each other very easily. It was great to have this close-knit community of people who I would be working with for the next two years.”

“Another reason I picked this degree is that I could try out lots of different roles in hotels and restaurants while studying. I mean, how exciting would it be to work at places like NHL Stenden’s Notiz Hotel or Restaurant Wannee? And the fact that I could finish my degree in just 3 years on the fast track programme was the icing on the cake.”

Checking in to a world of opportunities

“Switching to Hospitality Management showed me there's a whole world out there. Sure, sometimes it may feel like all you do is uni work, but there are endless opportunities to learn outside the classroom, like joining extracurriculars, mentorship groups, and hotel school competitions, just to name a few. You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn beyond just going to classes.”

“Thinking about the next steps after graduation, I’m still not sure where I want go. The programme has given me a taste of so many aspects of the hospitality industry, which is great for gaining experience, but now I need to figure out which areas I am most passionate about and what I want to focus on. I’m currently thinking about doing my internship in either Food & Beverage or Front Office and then seeing where that takes me.”
