The plan for the International School Fryslân came a big step closer to realisation on Thursday 19 September. Various regional parties, including NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, signed a declaration of intent to jointly work towards launching this new international school in Friesland.

The International School Fryslân will provide international education to children of expats and internationals who have settled in the region. The signing of the declaration of intent marks an important step towards approval by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The formal application for the school's realisation will be submitted before 1 October, with broad regional support emphasising the importance of and commitment to this initiative.

NHL Stenden wholeheartedly supports the initiative. “The International School Fryslân is a tremendous asset to the region. It helps us attract foreign lecturers and researchers, which further enhances the quality of our education,” said NHL Stenden Executive Board member Marc Otto. “As a university of applied sciences with an international profile, we consider it essential that our students develop intercultural skills, which are indispensable in today's world.”

Important Role for ITEPS

The International Teacher Education for Primary Schools (ITEPS) also plays a key role in this project. ITEPS not only brings expertise in international education but will also provide students who will undertake internships and gain practical experience at the International School Fryslân. Through this collaboration, NHL Stenden is directly contributing to the school's development and the training of a new generation of international teachers.

An Asset to the Region

With the arrival of the International School Fryslân, Friesland will become more attractive not only to international companies and families but will also position itself as a main hub for international education and cooperation. The project represents a boost to the economic and social development of Friesland and opens doors to new opportunities and connections.
