Winner Hayo Apotheker Incentive Fund Kevin van Uem

Kevin van Uem became the big winner at the very first edition of NHL Stenden's Hayo Apotheker Incentive Fund on Friday evening. The Maritieme Techniek student won the grand prize of 2,500 euros with his company Zeedrang, with which he is developing an innovative, sustainable propeller for large sailing boats. The six other finalists also won prizes.

The final of the Hayo Apotheker Incentive Fund took place at the main location of NHL Stenden in Leeuwarden. It was the apotheosis of a course in which the participating students set to work on their own ideas or venture. The prize pool totaled 25,000 euros: from coins that could be earned along the way (at 12.50 euros) to the grand prize of 2,500 euros.

Full results:

  1. Kevin van Uem (2,500 euros)
  2. Albert Duursma and Merian Oosterhuis (each 1,000 euros)
  3. Manuela van der Wal, Joyce Hoogeveen, Ramon Kok and Maarten Vloon (each 500 euros)

Inspiring gathering

Everyone was looking forward to the announcement of the winner, but the evening offered more. Attendees included students, teachers, entrepreneurs from the region, administrators and, of course, the namesake of the fund: former mayor of Leeuwarden and former board member of the college, Hayo Apotheker. While enjoying food and drinks, they experienced a pleasant and inspiring gathering.

The Hayo Apotheker Incentive Fund

At the end of 2021, the Hayo Apotheker Incentive Fund was announced to perpetuate the former administrator's name within the school. The fund is organized and distributed twice a year: fifty students can participate each time. The fund is intended to give students' ideas and (future) ventures an even sharper focus and a financial boost.

The Center for Entrepreneurship

The Hayo Apotheker Incentive Fund is organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship. The Center for Entrepreneurship was established by NHL Stenden - with 'entrepreneurial' as one of its core values - in order to help (future) entrepreneurs, freelancers and self-employed workers and to make it possible for them to work on their own business during their studies.
