Have you already decided which minor you want to take? You can choose a minor subject in either your third or fourth year of study, and it gives you a great opportunity to put a unique twist on your degree. You’ve got over 200 minors to choose from – so you’re bound to find something that’s right for you!

What is a minor?

Your minor subject is a compulsory part of your degree, but you choose the actual subject or subjects you study. It lasts six months and is worth a total of 30 ECTS.

The next Minor Market will be held on: 

  • 10 March 2026 at the Leeuwarden campus, Rengerslaan 8 & 10.
  • The Online Minor Market will then follow on 11 March 2026 when you’ll be able to join in live online meetings. You must register for this, see below.
  • 12 March 2026 at the Emmen campus.

If you’re studying somewhere other than NHL Stenden and you’re thinking about doing your minor through Kies Op Maat, then come to the Online Minor Market on 10 and 1 March. You’ll get to find out all you need to know about the minor and registration. Sign up for the market using this form and get your login details for the online market.
 

Signature minors

The signature minors are new at NHL Stenden. Each minor carries the clear DNA of one academy and connects students from different degree programmes. Whether you want to develop entrepreneurial skills within the social domain, strengthen your leadership in engineering, or explore a theme from your own field in greater depth, this is where your ambition gets the space it deserves.

You bring your own perspective from your degree and work in multidisciplinary teams with students from other fields. This way, you discover how one theme takes shape in different worlds, while working towards learning outcomes that match your personal development. It is exactly there that something new begins to grow. That is what makes our Community of Originals truly unique.
