Everything about the start of your studies
Get ready to start your new student life! Once you've applied there are all kinds of things you can start organising and looking into – and even more things to start looking forward to doing. From submitting your docs to packing your bags, from sorting housing to joining the intro week. Check out the info below and let’s get you sorted!
Already admitted? Great! Now you can get ready for the StudyStartWeek.
Starting your studies in February? Then get to know your new programme, teachers, and fellow students from 26-30 January 2026.
My admission’s confirmed. What now?
If you’ve already got your official Letter of Admission, then you know your application’s been successful. You can sit back, drop the stress, and start getting things together for your new student life.
Your student card gives you access to printing, parking, lockers and borrowing audiovisual equipment. You'll get an email explaining how to complete the info needed for the card. Then all you need to do is let us know when you’re arriving in the Netherlands, and we’ll fix up an appointment for you to pick up your student card from the Student Info desk.
Link up with others starting their student adventure on the Goin’ social platform. It’s secure and you can link up with people from the same country, with the same hobbies, looking for house mates and joining the same events. Keep an eye on your mail for your access link.
About a month before your studies start, you can check out your programme’s digital learning environment. This is where you can see what courses you’ll be taking in each module and semester, what the course covers and, once your course starts, gives you access to online materials. You’ll get more info, like how to log in, by email.
My studies are about to start. What do I still need to sort?
Finally! Your studies are about to start and you’ve already got so much organised! Let’s make sure you’re completely ready with this last-minute to-do list.
Getting to Leeuwarden before the StudyStartWeek? Then join in with the pre-intro events and kick-start your student life. Check out what’s on here.
The StudyStartWeek is the official NHL Stenden intro week and is a great way of exploring the campus and city so you get to know your way around. Plus, your own degree programme organises a host of activities so you get to know your classmates, your lecturers, and where you’ll actually be studying. Check out the programme here.
The First Year Fiesta is especially for our, yes, you guessed it, our first-year students. Held during the StudyStartWeek in Emmen and Leeuwarden, we provide the dj, the drinks and the snacks, you provide the fun – and get to pick up your NHL Stenden hoodie. What more could you ask?
From class schedules to tracking your progress, the YOS helps keep you organised when it comes to your studies – and helps you stay in touch with your study coach. Read more about the YOS app here.
You’ll find your schedule in the YOS app (check out this page for more info on YOS) and in MyX (My Xedule). The schedule for the semester is published a week before it starts. Your degree programme will send you your book list, so keep an eye on your mailbox.
The official launch of the new academic year, the Start Academic Year is our formal informal event that welcomes everyone home to NHL Stenden.
You get free coffee & tea from our drinks machines on campus – you just need to bring your own mug. We’ve disposed of disposable cups, so raid your cupboards for the mug you’ll love while you study or buy one on campus.
There's so much more to being a student than doing assignments and getting your grades in. But it can sometimes be a bit much. Our student counsellors are on hand to help you with advice and info on finances and regulations, facilities to help you deal with disabilities or a chronic illness, or if you’re combining your studies with informal care, elite sports or your own business. Just get in touch.
Find the info you need, from registration to enrolment, timetables to deregistration and re-enrolment in our interactive Metro Map.
The Metro Map is divided into different topics, each with its own station. Just clicking on a station to go straight to the topic and get quick answer to your question. The Metro Map helps you find your route from starting as a student to finishing as a professional.
