Student Career Hub
The Student Career Hub (SCH) is a student-led initiative that supports the transition from education to employment. It addresses the gap between students and the labour market by providing accessible career guidance, employer connections, and practical skills development. This project is important because many students, especially internationals, lack the knowledge, network, and confidence needed to successfully enter the Dutch job market.
Motivation
The project was initiated in response to a clear gap between students and the labour market, particularly in the Northern Netherlands. Many students struggle with limited professional networks, unfamiliarity with Dutch recruitment expectations, and a lack of practical job application skills. Existing support services are often perceived as inaccessible, fragmented, or not tailored to real student needs.
Additionally, regional employers face challenges in reaching and attracting student talent, especially international candidates. Through collaboration with Make it in the North, the SCH was created to bridge this gap by providing structured, visible, and practical career support while strengthening connections between students and regional opportunities.
What problem does it solve?
The SCH addresses the disconnect between students and the labour market. Many students lack practical knowledge on how to present themselves professionally, write effective CVs and motivation letters, or navigate internship and job opportunities, particularly within the Dutch context. For international students, this challenge is even greater due to cultural differences, limited networks, and unfamiliar recruitment processes. At the same time, employers in the Northern Netherlands struggle to connect with motivated and diverse student talent. The SCH solves this by providing accessible, student-centered support through walk-in consultations, workshops, and direct employer connections. It simplifies the career preparation process, increases awareness of regional opportunities, and empowers students with the skills and confidence needed to successfully enter the workforce.
