The Motivation for the Project
Horizontal, vertical and sectoral fragmentation often hinders tourism policy making that can effectively contribute towards sustainable urban development. It is crucial to review existing governance frameworks to better understand to what extent these frameworks accommodate the complexities of tourism development and finding ways to optimize tourism policy design and implementation.
The Problem the Project Solves
Tourism is becoming more and more intertwined with everyday urban life. Therefore, it can not be treated in isolation. There is a need for tourism researchers to engage with urban theory and for policy makers to recognize the importance of the sector to move tourism up in the urban agenda.
