DP Revalidation
DP Operator Certificates issued by the Nautical Institute are valid for 5 years. To renew your DP Operator Certificate you have to gain 150 days of DP Seatime and update your knowledge with Continuous Professional Development modules.
If you can’t meet these requirements, Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentsz (MIWB) offers an alternative route: the DP Revalidation Course.
You can renew your DP Operator Certificate (even without Seatime).
You’ll study at one of the best equipped Institutions in The Nederlands.
You will develop yourself in only 5 course days.
You will be taught by certified teachers.
The course will be conducted in English.
The DP Revalidation Course is available for DP operators with a DP Operators Certificate issued by the Nautical Institute, who do not meet the Seatime requirements or who have not (completely) done the necessary Continuous Professional Development modules.
The course can be attended in the last year of validity of the DP Operator Certificate.
Even with an expired DP Operator Certificate it’s possible to attend, but the application for NI DP Operator Certificate shall be submitted no later than three years after the expiry date of the DP Operator Certificate.
The course consists of a theoretical part and practical exercises, like briefing, simulations, debriefing en demonstrations.
The course meets the requirements of the Nautical Institute. The certificate issued by MIWB is valid for 1 year, allowing the DP operator to apply for a new DP Operator Certificate with the Nautical Institute.

What to expect
To attend the DP Revalidation Course a valid Nautical Institute DP Operator Certificate is required. You can attend from 1 year before the expiry date set by Nautical Institute on the DP Operator Certificate.
Even with an expired DP Operator Certificate it’s possible to attend, but the application for NI DP Operator Certificate shall be submitted no later than three years after the expiry date of the DP Operator Certificate.
After successful completion of the DP Revalidation Course MIWB issues a certificate that you can use to renew your DP Operator Certificate with the Nautical Institute.
The course certificate is valid for a period of 12 months only during which the DP Operator must submit an application for revalidation to the Nautical Institute.
If the participant is completing the course for the first time, there is no minimum DP sea time requirement. If the participant is completing the course for a second or subsequent time, a minimum of 28 days DP sea time will be required to revalidate.
