Future career after completing the International Teacher Education for Secondary Schools (ITESS)
With a bachelor’s degree in International Teacher Education for Secondary Schools (ITESS), you will be trained to teach at privately funded international schools or pursue a wide range of careers in international education. Whichever path you take, you will be able to apply your professional skills and knowledge to support children and young people of varying ages, nationalities, cultures and talents. Your degree is also a highly valued qualification if you decide to work in another field beyond education.
Career diversity
As a teacher in an international environment, many of your learners have parents who work in a country for some year and then move on. Your classes often include a diversity of learners with different backgrounds and language levels. With your professional skills, you will be a confident teacher to all kinds of learners. With your help, they will acquire the necessary subject knowledge and develop into eager, social and balanced individuals.
It is important to note that there is no such thing as a single international teaching licence. About 12,500 of the over 13,000 international schools worldwide are privately funded, and our graduates are well prepared to work in these schools. To teach at publicly funded international schools (for example, in the Netherlands and Germany), a national teaching qualification is required. This could be the situation in your home country; however it is dependent on a country's specific national regulations.
For ITESS graduates, it is also possible to obtain a Dutch teaching qualification through an additional programme at NHL Stenden. The duration of this route depends on your situation and subject specialisation (generally 1-2 years). A proficient level of Dutch is required.
Careers open to you after graduation include:
