This minor is designed for exchange students and students already studying in the Netherlands and is therefore taught in English. During this minor, you will be working with aspects of global citizenship and how these are implemented in different countries in Europe and worldwide. You will do this in four 'windows' or modules with an authentic task for a real-life client at the end. Meanwhile, you are introduced to the concept of Flipping the Classroom, you learn to develop interactive teaching materials, give feedback to pupils/students on the international educational platform MySchoolsNetwork and gain experience with online peer consultation in an international setting.
Minor content
This minor is modelled on the principles of Design Based Education; a wide range of (guest) lectures, workshops and excursions will be offered about the European agenda on education and other priorities and aspects of education. Besides, you will learn about the design and development of educational ICT.
You will work towards the following learning outcome:
To complete this minor you will demonstrate that you have acquired a thorough sense of what it means to be a teacher in a European and global context, both on the basis of desk research, personal experience and design carried out in an international community of practice.
Via the various ‘windows’ that make up this minor, you will collect the evidence necessary to comply with the minor learning outcome.
This minor is offered by the Secondary Education Teacher English programme.
Structure of the minor
The minor consists of several ‘windows’ that have all been designed to offer you excellent opportunities to collect evidence for your portfolio and to create an immersive intercultural and international experience for you with a focus on educational innovation.
The minor has the following ‘windows’ or modules:
- Flipping the Classroom (10 ECT)
- Online mentoring (5 ECT)
- Sharing Workplace Dilemmas (5ECT)
- Teaching the World (10 ECT)
Flipping the Classroom and Online Mentoring will be taught in the first half of the minor, and Sharing Workplace Dilemmas and Teaching the World will be taught in the second half.

The assessment of the minor consists of two parts :
- You will present an online portfolio in which you have compiled evidence to demonstrate the required learning outcomes.
- After your portfolio has been approved you will present your learning journey to your peers and assessors.
