International Teacher Education Social Studies 1
We provide the unique opportunity to strengthen your teacher profile through our Social Studies I minor.
In this minor students will improve their knowledge and skills on integrated geography and history teaching. Students will improve their proficiency of English. The minor offers students a specific international context in an international community.
This minor is offered by the Social Studies department of ITESS (International Teacher Education for Secondary Schools).
Minor content
Students will take several courses related to social studies (integrated geography and history). Within the courses the student has the choice to either put more emphasis on history or geography. Besides content , the didactics of both subjects and how to teach social studies integrated form the core of this minor. Fieldtrips, experiments, designing and learning together are important ingredients.
The minor will be assessed through a variety of assessment types. Portfolio’s, organizing events, written test and professional products are the types of assessments used.
The minor is suitable for students studying in the field of education who are interested in integrated learning and specifically for geography and history student-teachers. For Dutch geography and history student-teachers this course could be a good addition to their VMBO profile. The minimal English language requirement is C1.
