Minor content
"Mindfulness means consciously paying attention to the present moment without judgment", Jon Kabat Zinn, 'Living Full Catastrophe'
In this minor, students are provided with knowledge and skills that contribute to their self-knowledge, self-awareness and understanding the meaning of its self. In addition, the focus is on self-development by increasing self-regulation, self-compassion and improving personal skills. It is expected that through these skills they will not only be able to achieve their own well-being, but also find the strength and flexibility to help others within the care and welfare sector.
The uniqueness of this minor is that current theories from mindfulness are combined with creative activities and the local wisdom of Bali. Think about Balinese traditional dance and instruments, making offerings, mejejaitan traditional decoration and making mandalas in combination with silent meditation.
For this reason alone, this minor distinguishes itself from other universities and allows students to work in an international environment later on.
This minor is offered by the study program Healthcare
Structure of the minor
Self-awareness :Student works on discovering the "self" through a process of understanding and awareness in the here and now. The student uses mindfulness by recognizing and acknowledging their own habits, emotions, feelings, needs, wants, beliefs, and values. The student analyzes and evaluates his personality to create his personal reflective journey
Self-development: The student is able to observe themselves with an open mind, while being open to new perspectives in the present moment. He can manage his own emotions, stress levels, and thoughts to improve his personal and professional attitude and skills in context with clients. The student is able to apply communication skills. The student is able to notice the three aspects of personal development, namely physical, mental and emotional awareness, in themselves and clients.
Self-mastery/Mindfull based Stress Reduction: By analyzing and evaluating cross-cultural paradigms, students can create a new expressive work in a worldly-wise professional way, reflecting their true selves.
Lectures, workshops and excursions are offered in each unit. The lectures provide information about psychology, mindfulness, stress regulation and compassion. The foundation is, among other things, the theory of John Kabat Zinn. The workshops are focused on creative working methods such as body-oriented drawing, focusing, mandalas and traditional Balinese customs including dance, music but also meditation. Working visits are organized to explore the country of Bali with its beautiful art and culture.
