Collaborating with international partners
The Erasmus+ grant supports the FoodEcoCulture project, a collaboration between NHL Stenden and international partners, including the Technological University of the Shannon (Ireland), Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (Portugal), the European Learning Institute (Denmark), Campus Fryslân at the University of Groningen, and Momentum. Together, these institutions are developing innovative teaching modules, hands-on living labs, and an international conference where students will present solutions for a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Focus on sustainability and inclusion
FoodEcoCulture integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience to better prepare students and educators for global challenges in the food and hospitality sectors. More than 300 participants will have the opportunity to develop new skills and collaborate on tangible solutions with industry and community partners.
“Food goes beyond nourishment; it connects people and cultures,” says project coordinator Lucia Tomassini. “By adopting a broad and interdisciplinary approach, students learn how to address complex issues such as climate change and social inclusion.” Lucia is also a member of the professorship Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism, where she contributes to supporting the sector in its transition towards a more sustainable future.
Research and collaboration at the heart
The project is part of the RUN-EU network, which fosters international collaboration in education and research. According to Professor Elena Cavagnaro, head of the professorship Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism, the grant underscores the importance of their work. “This recognition highlights our leadership in shaping sustainable education for the hospitality sector.”
Looking towards the future
With FoodEcoCulture, NHL Stenden addresses the growing need for innovative food education. By connecting education, industry, and communities, the project aims to create a sustainable and inclusive future.
