The RUN-EU network of universities of applied sciences will once again receive a four-year grant from the European Commission: an Erasmus+ grant of 14.4 million euros. NHL Stenden is one of the 7 partners within the network of higher education institutions. There will soon be nine: new from 2024 will be Universidad de Burgos from Spain and Howest (Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen) from Belgium.

The results of the European Universities Erasmus+ Call 2023 were announced on Monday, with good news for RUN-EU (Regional University Network-European University) is one of the European alliances that received the positive news for the award of the Erasmus+ funding. This subsidy is provided for the next four years: from 2024 to 2028. After evaluation in 2027, it is possible to receive a subsidy for another two years. This means that RUN-EU – including the first cycle of three years – will have an operational framework of at least nine years.

Making an impact in the region

Erica Schaper, President of the Executive Board of NHL Stenden: “This is great news. This new award enables RUN-EU to continue creating international and meaningful opportunities for students, teachers and researchers at NHL Stenden. In this way we can make an even better impact on the broad prosperity in the regions in which we are located as a university of applied sciences.”

In addition to the subsidy news, RUN-EU also welcomes two new members: Universidad de Burgos from Spain and Howest (Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen) from Belgium. With them, even more learning opportunities will be created and offered in the next phase of RUN-EU, aimed at successfully meeting the challenges of the future. In addition, new educational activities are being developed in the field of entrepreneurship, innovation and service.

Regional transformation

Peter de Boer, project manager at RUN-EU: “RUN-EU has become increasingly accepted within NHL Stenden over the past three years. We are proud that all our academies have been involved in RUN-EU activities and see many collaborations with RUN-EU partners emerging at all levels of our institution. Nearly one hundred and fifty NHL Stenden students have now taken part in SAPs (short advanced programmes), and almost one third of these have been developed or co-developed by our academies. We are excited about the opportunity to further build our alliance and contribute to regional transformation.”

All RUN-EU-partners are delighted to continue their mission in the coming years and to further deepen, intensify and expand the effectiveness of this collaboration within the European University. Together they will continue to work for the sustainable economic, social, cultural and environmental progress of their regions and stakeholders.
