Whereas the Northern Netherlands once thrived on a powerful industrial foundation, that position is under pressure today. But it is precisely in this challenge that an enormous opportunity lies. The rise of digitisation and circularity offers unprecedented possibilities to make the manufacturing industry smarter, more sustainable and future-proof. What do we need? A new generation of professionals with the right skills and a region that is ready to train, retain and develop them. The shrinking and ageing labour force keeps us on our toes. Without a targeted influx, advancement and training, the foundation of our economy is in danger of weakening.
Skillsforlife: a skills ecosystem for talent
Skillsforlife jumps right into this pool of possibilities. By connecting education, business and government, we are working together within this project to build a sustainable skills ecosystem. But how do you do that in a region that covers a quarter of the Netherlands, with only ten percent of the population?
The key lies in strengthening the building blocks of a lively ecosystem:
- sufficient fuel in the form of motivated learners;
- a powerful catalyst in the form of a decisive project;
- strong solidarity through learning circles;
- a rich breeding ground in the form of practice-oriented, context-rich learning environments where learning and working go hand in hand.
With Skills for Life, we make talent development and lifelong development the norm, not the exception. We are working towards a future in which the smart, circular manufacturing industry flourishes, employment is preserved and the North is not only known for its space and quality of life, but also as the place where you can work meaningfully on the world of tomorrow.
