What the master Maritime Innovations offers

You can build a modular programme to suit your interests and background. Core modules include human factors engineering, research and human resources. You can also choose from a range of optional modules, including data-driven optimisation, asset management, wind-assisted sailing and advanced energy management. The programme gives you a chance to develop a multidisciplinary perspective that will help you apply your operational expertise to solve complex problems. You will gain insights into strategy and become a skilled advisor at all organisational levels.

Combining work and study

The operational part-time maritime master's is the answer for people who want to develop further and continue working. This allows you to combine studying with work, family or other things that demand your time.

Maritime Innovations in practice

During your studies, you carry out practical assignments from real companies, working in groups and coached by lecturers and professionals with relevant professional experience. It’s a way of learning, an educational concept, we call Design-Based Education. You learn to draw on feedback to adapt your ideas and become more flexible, while also developing your teamwork and leadership skills.

Within the programme, you draw on issues and challenges from your own workplace, working on these cases from a nautical, technical or design-oriented perspective. This helps you create your own study programme based on your interests and background. Of course, you do not necessarily have to choose one orientation as a mix is also often possible.

Career

Today’s professionals need to have in-depth knowledge and strategic skills to make a difference and create solutions for complex problems. As a master’s student at a university of applied sciences, you work closely with industry and carry out research for a particular company or organisation. This means your thesis question covers a current issue and the product, findings and conclusions in your final thesis are supported by both academic theory and practical insights. This sets you up as an expert and innovator in your field of work.

The reasons to study at NHL Stenden

The things that make a difference in the world often start as ideas from people daring to question what others assume. At NHL Stenden, you work in mixed groups so you can use each other's perspectives to unravel unobvious choices. Through real-life projects you learn by doing and this, combined with your internship, truly gives you a head start on your career. With our international opportunities and study environment, you develop a global network while the extracurricular activities you can pick up mean you develop talents that help you explore beyond your studies. While this is all great for your future, we know you also need to focus on your time as a student. Which is why we aim to make NHL Stenden your home away from home, a community where you’re known by your name, so you can be the person you truly are. For us, that makes you original. And it makes NHL Stenden, home of the originals.
