The Elective Early Childhood Education (ECE) is a specialisation for students who wish to prepare themselves for working with children between the ages of 3-7 in (international) primary or pre-school education. This Elective seeks to support students in evaluating, reflecting upon, and expanding their views about who young children are and what they are capable of.
Minor content
The Elective supports students in building up a secure theoretical and practical understanding of the different experiences of childhood that young children have had throughout history; and continue to have throughout the world today. Based on an understanding of the cultural and social situatedness of childhood, the Elective explores the concept of play from an international perspective, how young children learn best, and how this learning can be supported by the collaboration between ECE professionals, parents and guardians, and the children themselves. Students will join a variety of sessions of varying formats, including practical ateliers, design-based tasks, and inquiry-based explorations as well as (guest) lectures and field trips.
