Based on the vision that all pupils/students experience success in their learning and that teachers excel in organising and supporting that learning, (subject) teaching, in a (northern) context, which is subject to many and rapid changes in a wide range of areas, is the No 1 priority skill of (the next generation of) teachers. 

The Teaching Methods and Vocational Pedagogy professorship of NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences aims to initiate and support a lively and powerful movement in the field of teaching methodology and vocational pedagogy & lifelong development between training colleges for secondary and vocational education and teacher training programmes. The professorship focuses on pedagogical issues aimed at the profession in educational practice. 

The aims of the professorship are: 

  • firstly, to strengthen teachers and teacher educators in organising and support student/pupil learning; 
  • secondly, to contribute to improvements and innovation in education at schools and in teacher training programmes; 
  • and, last but not least, to contribute to the further development of the scientific knowledge based in the field of teaching methods and teaching with a view to learning a profession. 

Vital Regions 

The Teaching Methods and Vocational Pedagogy professorship of the Secondary & Vocational Education Academy (Academie VO & MBO) of NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences and the professorships of the Primary Education Academy (Academie PO) together form the Vital Education Research Group at NHL Stenden UAS. 
 
Within the Vital Regions key priority area of NHL Stenden UAS, the research group works on strengthening the educational infrastructure in the Northern region.
