Inhoud van de minor

The music industry is constantly subject to changes that have a great impact on the sector. Digitization as well as the recent corona crisis have shown how fragile the industry can be. This asks for new professionals in the sector that both have knowledge about the industry as well asthe ability to innovatively deal with the constant changes in the sector.

In the minor Music Management,you will be given the opportunity to work on innovative projects for the European music industries. Whether this is from your own ambitions to start your own company or work for an organization in the music industry. You will be coached by industry professionals to kickstart your career in music.   

Opzet van de minor

The minor Music Management is a full semester minor of 30EC. You will work alone or in teams up to five students on a wide variety of cases. During the semester your classes will be in Ateliers, Coach meetings and expert meetings. Some cases you can think of could be:

  • How micropayments can support artists in touring around Europe
  • Finding solutions for profitability of venues in times of corona.
  • How can VR substitute live shows for artists who otherwise cannot finance meeting their audiences abroad?

As we will work on real-life cases, you will be coached in finding solutions for the music industry, by industry professionals. You will pitch and reiterate your solutions to industry professionals and eventually come up with a substantiated prototype for a new product, service, business model or market approach for the industry. The learning outcomes of this minor are focused around this concept as well as it is around self-learning.In the minor we focus around the following learning outcomes:

  • Insights in the Music Industry: you can demonstrate that you have delivered a (strategic) contribution to the international music sector, by working on (organizational) goals from your knowledge and insights of the industry.
  • Insights in mediacontent: you can contribute to design gapsin the music industry on concept development, production and/or marketing, based on a substantiated opinion of the meaning and experience of media content in the music sector.
  • Concept development: you cancontribute to the (re)design, adaptation, improvement or simplification of a concept that is suitable, acceptable and feasible as a meaningful experience for a specific audience in the music industry.
  • Innovation: youcanactively respond to multidisciplinarychanges and developments and you are able to translate this into meaningful ideas and opportunities for organizations in the music industry.

Toetsing

You will be assessed but how you will achieve these learning outcomes is up to you. By choosing the right deliverables to demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge, skills and attitude towards achieving the learning outcomes you can pass this minor. Take into account that when choosing this minor, this assessing might be different from your usual experience regarding assessment.

Assessment in this minor is done on your ability to self-study, manage and the knowledge, skills and attitude that you gain from this. You will be guided in this process and at the end of the minor you will get your EC’s based on the number of Learning outcomes you have passed. Assessment will be done in an interview with you, you coach and one external assessor.

Doelgroep

Students need to have a background in management studies and a clear preference to a career in the music industry if they enroll in this minor. If you are currently studying something different than management studies, it is recommended not to enroll for this minor. This minor is developed for students with a media or other creative industries management background.

Having experience in design-based education will help you a lot in this minor as well. For our February 2021 semester we will start with a minimum of 12students and there is a maximum of 25 students accepted in the minor. Creative Business students from NHL Stenden University will have priority over other students. As of this moment we do not have additional costs, but keep in mind that there might be additional costs up to 150 euros for this minor.
