Simona Staffieri werd geboren in 1975 in Rome (Italië). In 2001 behaalde ze een masterdiploma (MA) in "Statistics and Economics" aan de Universiteit van Rome "La Sapienza". Na het voltooien van deze graad behaalde ze in 2004 de master in "Sources, Tools and Methods for Social Research" en in 2005 de master in "Statistics for Management of Information Systems".

In 2013 behaalde ze een PhD in "Research Methods for the Analysis of Socio-Economic Change" aan de Universiteit van Rome "La Sapienza," met een proefschrift over jeugdtoerisme in Italië. Sinds 2002 werkt ze als onderzoeker bij het Italiaanse Nationale Instituut voor de Statistiek, waar ze zich specialiseert in gezondheids- en handicapstatistieken.
Van 2015 tot 2017 was ze adjunct-professor Statistiek voor Toerisme, en van 2017 tot 2019 adjunct-professor Economie van Toerisme. In het academiejaar 2019-2020 bekleedde ze een positie als adjunct-professor Statistiek aan de Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen van de Universiteit van Rome "La Sapienza." Sinds 2018 geeft ze les in Statistics and Data Analysis bij de master in Languages of Tourism and Intercultural Communication aan de Universiteit van Studies "Roma Tre."
Sinds 2012 is ze extern lid van de Research Group Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism aan de Academy of International Hospitality Research van NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. In de afgelopen jaren heeft ze aan verschillende onderzoeksprojecten gewerkt op het gebied van cultuur en welzijn.

Eind mei 2015 vond de jaarlijkse CHME-onderzoeksconferentie plaats in Manchester (VK) met als thema 'The future in our hands'. Tijdens de conferentie werden Simona Staffieri en Dr. Elena Cavagnaro geëerd met de award voor 'best paper' binnen hun onderzoeksgebied.
